Wardman Wire Banner design contest … 10,000 ads for your blog up for grabs
I posted on Friday about a competition to design banner ads for the Wardman Wire, and the political blog aggregator sites which I run:
I’m after a set (6 total: 3 of 468×60 and 3 of 125×125) of complementary banners for promotion of this site - The Wardman Wire .
and
I’m busy, so if someone (who is a political blogger) can come up with a decent set of (static or not too much animation) banners for the following sites: www.politics-england.co.uk, www.politics-scotland.co.uk, www.politics-europe.co.uk, www.politics-ireland.co.uk, www.politics-wales.co.uk .
We want more information
dropped me an email with a few questions about the banners I am looking for for the Wardman Wire. I’ve posted detail here about the banners for the politics-**** sites, so I’ve posted the answers for this site here:
>What sort of thing are you looking for for the Wardman Wire banners? Banners are easier to design the more is known. For example, what do you want them to convey?
I’ll take these 2 together. I’m looking for 468×60 banners and 125×125 buttons that I can offer to other sites to use to link back, either in articles or in sidebars.
“Wardman Wire” as a name suggests news and news wire services. It is a general name, and doesn’t convey too much about the content or approach (analytical not polemical) of the site. That was what I intended, but now it would be good to have banners suited to the different types of content (political, tech, cricket, religion, and so on), and themes (small government, free speech, treat internet stats with suspicion etc.), as well as “general” type banners.
I also have a thought at the back of my mind that this article could be linked from some creative banners. Slogans such as “keep politicians on a short leash” spring to mind. There are other articles that could be targeted similarly, such as this one - which is about transparency in campaigning and the Sexual orientation regulations. Most of the articles linked from the “top blogging” and “top politics” would be suitable, and there are others around.
The first banner I did was using the general “birds chattering on a telephone wire” logo, and that could easily take different slogans and ideas (tightropes, communication, chatter, Chinese whispers etc).
You can see a good deal more about how I understand the site on the Advertising and About pages.
>Also, what font do you use in your Wardman Wire header?
Hmmm. I forgot! It was done on Fireworks in windows. I’ll see if I can hunt it out, but I don’t hold out too much hope on that one.
The font in this banner is Serifa BT, which is not too far off (maybe).
